Poyntons Of Essendon, Company
The Poynton family began spreading their passion for plants with Warwick 'Bill' Poynton over 70 years ago. In 1935, at the age of nineteen, Bill took over one and a half acres of land by the Maribyrnong River in Essendon and laid the foundations of Poyntons of Essendon.
Bills enormous supply of energy and enthusiasm took the nursery from its beginnings as a seedling grower supplying Queen Victoria and South Melbourne Markets through to retail nursery stocking ground grown shrubs and trees.
In 1967 Bill's eldest son Warwick began working alongside his father in the nursery. Where Bills focus had always been on plants, it was through his son' s great vision and dedication to providing excellent customer service that the nursery began to expand and improve.
From late 1979 the nursery expanded to just over 3 acres. In 1998 a multilevel building was opened with a café that offers fantastic views of the Maribyrnong River and the city skyline. The lower and middle levels are home to two fabulous shops. Poyntons Interiors offering more traditional home décor and Outdoor Living with a focus on contemporary lifestyles.
The nursery still maintains its tradition of family involvement with both Warwick's sons Dale and Scott fully involved. This has ensured that the trademark of providing excellent customer service and high quality plants has continued.
